A sign, lesson and warning from Titanic

Tell a Friend

Article written and submitted by Brother Abdur Rahman.

We all know the story of Titanic, the doomed ship (or among the youngsters the romantic ship), the largest vessel ever made by human being in the world, and commanded by Capt. Edward John Smith, the ultimately doomed commander, who was known as the millionaires captain, had logged two million miles aboard white star ships.

Look at the captains statements "when anyone asks me how I can best describe my experiences of nearly forty years at sea, I merely say , "Uneventful". I have never been in an accident of any sort worth speaking about.....I cannot imagine any condition which would cause a ship to founder. I cannot conceive of any vital disaster happening to this vessel. Modern shipbuilding has gone beyond that". So from the most seasoned commander to the lowliest third class passengers believed that the Titanic quite simply could not sink.

Now look in to one of God's book, the Holy Quran, which was revealed to us more than 1,400 years ago.

Surah Ar. Rum Verse 46

And among His signs is that the ships may sail at His Command and that you may seek of His bounty, in order that you may be thankful.

Surah Ash-Shura Verses 32-34

And among His signs are the Ships in the sea like mountains. If He Wills, He causes the wind to cease, then they would become motionless on the back, verily in this are signs for everyone patient and grateful.

Or He may destroy them because of that which their people have earned and He pardons much.

Surah Luqman, Verse 31

See you not that the ships sail through the sea by Allah's grace that He may show you of His signs? Verily in this are signs for every patient, grateful.

Surah Al Kahf Verse 23

And never say of anything i shall do such and such thing tommorrow except with the saying if Allah wills (insa-allah)

We read lots of books written by human beings whose knowledge and abilities are very limited, we believe in them and follow them strictly. But we never bother to read and understand the greatest literature, encyclopedia, and the problem solving guide given by the Super Power, Almighty Allah, who is the One True God. If we read and understand the Quran, we can avoid disasters such as that of Titanic.

May Allah give us the knowledge and guide us to the right path. (Ameen).
